IP classification

The IP rating system is an international standard indicating the degree of protection for electrical products and is used in Europe. The IP classification rates the degree of protection of the product against external threats such as dust and water. The content of the classification is presented in IEC 60529 standard.

The IP code consists of the text IP (Ingress Protection) and two numbers and optional letters.

The first digit indicates the level of protection provided against foreign objects and dust:

The higher the number is the tighter the product

0: No protection

1: Protection against large objects, diameter 50mm or more

2: Protection against medium objects, diameter over 12.5mm

3: Protection against small objects, diameter over 2.5mm

4: Protection against extremely small objects, diameter over 1mm

5: Protection against dust. Ingress of dust not completely prevented, but no harmful dust accumulations should occur

6: Complete protection. Dust-tight..

The second digit indicates the level of protection provided against water and humidity:

The higher the number, the better the product can withstand humidity

0: No protection

1: Protection against vertically dripping water

2: Protection against vertically dripping water when tilted at 15°

3: Protection against spraying water at an angle up to 60°

4: Protection against splashing of water

5: Protections against water jets from any direction

6: Protection against powerful water jets from any direction

7: Withstands instantaneous immersion in water

8: Withstands continuous immersion in water
